As of October 12, 2026, 57 of the 500 S&P 500 companies pass Kaplio's Lynch method: each one is first sorted into one of Peter Lynch's six categories, judged with that category's buy and veto rules, and priced with the PEG ratio (or net cash per share for asset plays and turnarounds, or the inverted P/E signal for cyclicals). Only those that meet (or nearly meet) its bar make the list. 10 of them also pass the Buffett method.

This is a computable reconstruction of One Up on Wall Street and Beating the Street, not Lynch's opinion or portfolio. Each category is bought and sold by different rules: a stalwart is not judged like a fast grower.

How each company is judged

  1. Classification: one of Lynch's six categories (slow grower, stalwart, fast grower, cyclical, turnaround, asset play), with a confidence level
  2. Buy and veto rules per category: earnings growth, debt, inventories, buybacks and dividend, each rule with its source in the books
  3. Sector checklists: banks, insurers, retailers and utilities have their own rules
  4. Quality 0-100: the result of the rules above, without the price
  5. Price: adjusted PEG (growth plus dividend yield over P/E) for growers; net cash per share for asset plays and turnarounds; the inverted P/E signal for cyclicals: meets its bar, comes close or falls far short
  6. Verdict: approves (high quality and a price that meets or nearly meets its bar), would wait or would not approve

Frequently asked questions

How many companies pass the Lynch method today according to Kaplio?

As of October 12, 2026, 57 of the 500 S&P 500 companies: high quality on their category's rules and a price that meets (or nearly meets) its bar. Recalculated every Monday.

What are Lynch's six categories?

Slow growers (grow with the economy, pay a dividend), stalwarts (large, grow 10-12 % a year), fast growers (earnings grow 20-25 % a year), cyclicals (earnings rise and fall with the cycle), turnarounds (depressed earnings after a track record) and asset plays (worth more for what they own than for what they earn). Each has its own way of being bought and sold.

What is the PEG and how does the method use it?

The PEG divides the P/E by earnings growth (plus the dividend yield, in Lynch's adjusted version). Below 1 the P/E does not exceed growth and meets Lynch's bar; around 1 it comes close; well above, it falls far short. It applies to growers and stalwarts; cyclicals, turnarounds and asset plays are priced differently.

Is this a buy recommendation?

No. It is a mechanical list with public rules, the same for every company. Lynch has not opined on any of them; the name says where the rules come from. Every company links to its page, with Kaplio's overview and reading.
